MARGUERITE'S TRIM
Updates:
I'm calling this Marguerite's trim because much like Eyvandr's haversack, she's the one who won it. I had donated a promissory for a blackworked cuffs and collar set for the Crosston silent auction back at Mists spring coronet. For various reasons I had to put off Marguerite's trim project, but a couple months ago we started talking about details. And just last month, she was invited to join the Order of the Gold Scarf, a new high SCA award for equestrians. She decided she wanted to go for boy clothes and that this trim would work well for the shirt. |
She wanted to be able to wash the shirt the trim would go on, so we opted for black cotton DMC thread and white chemise-weight linen. She lent me the linen at Beltane last and I pondered what pattern to use. She being her, she wanted fleurs in the pattern. However, I had yet to see a period line counted pattern that had fleurs in it, at least ones that were small enough to fit onto cuffs and a collar. |
| I pinged those embroidery goddesses I trusted for help, and although they offered some good advice and patterns, there just wasn't anything I was really looking for. So I went back to the good old embroidery pattern that I used for both Vittoria's and Oonagh's trims and "fleurified" it by swapping out one of the elements for a fleur. And it turned out pretty nice, I think. I ran it by Marguerite who really liked it, and that's all that mattered to me. |
If you were wondering, I made the pattern in my PatternMaker software and turned it into a jpg. Feel free to use it, if you like! |
| Like the others, it didn't take me too long to finish. I decided to lash it into a scroll frame this time to see if I could alleviate any of the bubbling I tend to get in blackwork stitches. And it helped, a bit. |
| I handed it over to her about a week and a half ago, and now am waiting for Purgatorio when she will debut the shirt at her ceremony. I will eagerly get pictures, and will post them here when I have them. |
