Yet another patch for Her Majesty Kaaren! She will be decked with thousands of woman-hours ere we’re done with her.

Caiterina nic Sheamuis has organized a project for Kaaren, intending to make a Persian coat with a cloud collar for Her Majesty. There will also be several matching patches worked with a design based on period Persian motifs, which is where I come in. I offered to do up a patch for her (there I go again) and have been working on it for a couple weeks now. It is at a bit of a halt because I wasn’t sent enough thread in the kit, but as Cait and I will be meeting soon that will be remedied.

The patch is done on a gold silk front with a natural linen backing. The embroidery is using several colors of Splendor silk, in stem, split, and outline stitch using two and three threads.

I’ve gone as far as I can with the patch. The kit I was given did not have enough of the final color I was working with, so I’ve left it as it is and will send it along to be finished by Cait. There really isn’t a whole lot to do, probably just one strand’s worth of work. It took me this long to finish because I realized I had filled in a space with the wrong color and lost my drive to work on the project. I let it sit until August rolled around and I thought, “Isn’t this thing supposed to be presented at Purgatorio? Uh oh . .” So I picked it back up and finished it off in three days time.

I realize I didn’t write much about the project while I was working on it, but that’s okay. It was a pretty straightforward project, sans the foobar I did near the end. I will see if anyone going to Purgatorio can get pictures of the coat, where my patch is on it, and the coat on Kaaren.

Okay, so it's been a while since Purg. Which is fine, as only now are pictures starting to roll in. Catherine Lorraine took a bunch, as did Gelis, who was Kaaren's royal photographer. I specifically asked Gelis to get pictures of this coat, and she did a wonderful job.

I do not know which patch is mine, but it the end, it really doesn't matter. What matters is that Kaaren got a faboo coat which doubled as a proclamation to the world about how kind the West Kingdom is. For every bead on this coat represents an act of kindness that was reported to Her Majesty during her reign. It looks great, and I'm once again thrilled to have been a part of such a large, awesome project. Kudos to Caiterina for running it!
