ELRIK'S BLACKWORK TRIM

Viscount Sir Elrik Skap-Vargr has been a great help to the West Kingdom Needleworkers Guild over the years. I believe that in the modern world he works at a print shop and has allowed the guild to print out its quarterly newsletter at very low cost. In 2004 Baroness Sabrina de la Bere asked if I would make him some trim as a thank-you gift for the following 12th Night. I decided on a German blackwork pattern and Sabrina and I decided on measurements for the trim. I made enough in three pieces to adorn the wrists and neck of whatever shirt he wanted to attach them to. He was greatly pleased to receive the trim, and although he has not found time to attach them to a shirt, is still admiring and appreciative of them. He recently was kind enough to take some pictures of the trim and send them to me for my use.

I have no idea what I used for the thread (either cotton or silk), but the fabric appears to be white evenweave art linen. The ric-rac edging of white cotton on all three pieces was done by hand.

As a side note, Sir Elrik is one of the nicest men I’ve come across, in or out of the SCA. He is a very kind, pleasant, accommodating soul. And he’s nice to look at, too. :D
